The Government's Airports Commission has examined the need for additional airport capacity in the UK for the short, medium and longer term. The Commission has given its recommendations and the government is considering its response.

Our focus

London Councils does not advance a specific proposal for the expansion of airport capacity. We have, however, across all 33 local authorities in London, established a set of nine parameters for assessing any options for expanding aviation capacity. These parameters represent a common view agreed by all council Leaders in June 2013.

The London APPG met on 11 October 2016 to discuss with Heathrow, Gatwick and Heathrow Hub the three shortlisted options for airport expansion in London and the south east. The briefing documents and note of the meeting can be found here.
