Chair of London Councils (Labour)
Councillor Claire Kober was elected as chair of London Councils on 11 July 2016 at the meeting of the Leaders' Committee - comprising the Leaders of all London’s boroughs.
She was elected to Haringey Council in 2006 and represents the Seven Sisters ward in South Tottenham. In December 2008, having been Labour's chief whip, she was elected leader of the council.
As leader, Claire has prioritised: working towards making Haringey the greenest borough through a 40 per cent reduction in carbon emissions; renovating the borough's schools; building a new community school in the heart of Wood Green; regenerating Haringey through schemes such as Haringey Heartlands and Tottenham Hale; improving children's services; improving housing, and supporting local businesses.
Prior to serving as leader of the council, Claire worked for a number of national charities in public policy and campaigning roles. She has a particular interest in family policy, poverty and social inclusion issues and was formerly the head of policy for Family Action.
